#1 BRING EARBUDS
To survive a long-haul flight you won’t want to forget your earbuds or headphones. They’ll help you drown out any noise when trying to sleep or relax.
They’ll also come in handy for watching shows or movies, or to listen to podcasts or music to keep you occupied during the flight.
#2 CREATE A PLAYLIST
This is my favorite thing to do before a flight. Listening to music is a great way to pass time. Music is also an easy way to stay relaxed. Make sure to download songs before your flight and make several different playlists.
You could try making a playlist that includes more chill and relaxing songs for when you’re tired. You might also want to prepare a playlist that includes more upbeat songs for a bit of a pick me up.
Preparing several playlists helps you prepare for whatever mood you might be in during the flight and listening to a variety of songs can help pass the time.
#3 BRING A SLEEP MASK
Sleep is essential when traveling far away, especially to different time zones. Traveling can be exhausting. Between packing and planning, and filling your days with work or fun activities once you arrive at your destination, it can take a lot out of you.
Long-haul flights are perfect to sneak in a few extra hours of sleep to ensure you’re well rested and ready to go as soon as you land.
However, sometimes the lights on the plane can make it hard to sleep. A simple solution is a sleep mask that reduces the amount of light entering your eyes, making it easier to rest.
#4 BRING A NECK PILLOW
A neck pillow is a must-have to survive a long-haul flight. Sleeping on planes can be tricky and uncomfortable.
Not to mention, falling asleep in a weird position can cause your neck to get sore which isn’t a good way to start your trip. To prevent this, invest in a neck pillow.
A neck pillow will help you relax, prevent neck soreness, and hopefully help you get some sleep to prevent jet lag when you arrive at your destination.
#5 BRING SOMETHING TO PASS THE TIME
No matter what you do, always plan to bring something to pass the time if you want to survive a long-haul flight. This could be downloading a podcast before your flight, downloading movies or shows, or bringing a book, journal, or work to catch up on.
You could even bring a notebook to further plan out some of your trip and what you want to do. Whatever it is, make sure you pack what you need and download any forms of entertainment onto your phone before your flight. That way, you’ll be less bored and the time will go by fast.
#6 BRING A WATER BOTTLE
A water bottle is a must. Flights can dehydrate you quickly and often there isn’t enough water provided to stay properly hydrated.
To make sure you stay hydrated before arriving at your destination, make sure to bring a water bottle you can fill up after going through security and make sure to sip it throughout the flight.
#7 WEAR COMFY CLOTHES
Being stuck on an airplane for a long time in uncomfortable clothing is never fun. To survive a long-haul flight, wear comfortable clothes.
Joggers, sweatpants, and a light sweater or sweatshirt are great options to stay comfortable. You’ll also want to wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off when going through security or for during your flight when you want to relax.
Comfortable and loose clothing will make it easier to relax and fall asleep which can help prevent jet lag and pass the time.
#8 BRING AN EXTRA LAYER
It’s often hard to predict what temperature a plane will be. That’s why, it’s always important to wear an extra layer on a long-haul flight.
That way, you can take the extra layer off or put it on depending on how cold or warm you get throughout the flight. Wearing an extra layer will keep you comfortable throughout the duration of your flight. To ensure maximum comfort when traveling, make sure to layer up just in case.
#9 PACK A FACIAL CLEANSER AND MOISTURIZER
Long flights can take a toll on your skin. That’s why, it’s important to bring travel size facial products in your personal item or carry-on to take care of your skin during your long flight.
Long-haul flights can dehydrate your skin which is why it’s good to bring a cleanser and moisturizer to help rehydrate it.
This will help you steer clear of breakouts and blemishes, and keep your skin looking it’s best when you arrive at your travel destination.
#10 PACK SNACKS
To survive a long-haul flight, don’t forget snacks. A few snacks and possibly a meal or two are usually provided on a long-haul flight.
However, this food is usually packed with sodium and there is no guarantee the options will meet your dietary preferences or requirements. In addition, you might get hungry in between meals which is why it’s good to have a couple of snacks packed in your personal item.
Just make sure they are TSA approved. Granola bars, crackers, and dried fruit are all good options to satisfy your mid-flight cravings.
